I’m Spending New Year’s Eve Alone And That’s OK

I will be honest, I do not like spending time with people, which is probably why I have few IRL friends and spend time with my family mostly just during holidays. I do, of course, enjoy spending time with K.  Chester does not count. I’d spend every day being bored with him than even one full night of “partying.”  Going out somewhere during the cold months gives me a lot of anxiety and a lot of unnecessary worrying about illness. I’d rather just not go out and enjoy my time alone at home. Sorry if that’s weird to you, but it’s how I can be comfortable and mostly relaxed.

I did pick out my “going out” outfit for the evening, which I’m not actually going to wear, but that I think would be great for the occasion.

Yes, those are my feet.

Yes, those are my feet. I love the crop top with the pencil skirt. I think it is a flattering, sexy look for me. I choose to wear yellow or rose gold jewelry when I wear darker clothes because I think it brings out the warmth in my usually cool skin tone.

So, you could probably guess from that introduction and the title of this post that I am not going anywhere to celebrate New Year’s Even. Rather, I will be sitting at home, enjoying a show or movie on Netflix, and crocheting some play food for my niece and nephew.  This is how I like to spend most of my days off and this is probably what I’ll be doing tomorrow as well.

That being said, this doesn’t mean that I can’t make myself pretty for the holiday. I know this is a holiday in which women like to get dressed up and go out for drinks to watch the ball drop.  I most likely won’t watch that because Netflix is funner, but I decided to put on my “party” makeup anyway.

Some people have asked me recently how my skin looks so “flawless.”  Several times my mom has told me that my face looks like porcelain.  While I do take good care of my skin and have actually posted about it here, my skin is far from perfectly flawless and white like a collectible doll.  I decided to show you what I look like without ANY makeup on my face. I am wearing moisturizer here, but no makeup.

In case you haven’t noticed, I have very freckly skin. I’ve had freckles for as long as I can remember and they are probably mostly genetic. I used to be embarrassed by them, but now I think they are kind of unique and endearing. This article at xoVain.com really gave me a new perspective on some of my features.  I don’t necessarily try to cover them up, but even the slightest amount of foundation will hide them.

What’s my secret, you ask? Well, it’s easy. I wear lots of BB cream!

20141231_150525I squeeze it directly onto my face in a way that sort of resembles a tabby cat.

BB cream, for me, has been a godsend. I have never tried American BB creams and probably won’t because I have heard more often than not that they just don’t compare to the BB creams you find from Korea.

After about an hour of putting on makeup and doing my hair, you have the finished product.

I am certainly one of those people who, although I have good skin naturally, looks way better with makeup on. You don’t have to agree, but I feel far more confident with pretty colors on my face and my hair all looking pretty. Here’s a summary of the makeup I used:

Base:

  • bareMinerals Prime Time original primer. I love this stuff. It hides my pores before I put on BB cream or foundation and gives my skin a smooth finish.
  • Hanskin Super Magic BB. This is a more expensive Korean BB cream, but it has really excellent coverage and doesn’t oxidize like some BB creams I’ve used. It leaves my skin dewey and natural looking. This is how I get that porcelain look.
  • Skinfood Salmon Dark Circle Concealer Cream.  This is the best concealer cream for dark circles! If you noticed in the pictures before, I have dark circles. This is not due to a lack of sleep, but allergies. They are called “allergy shiners” and they are caused by chronic allergies. I’ve had them since I was a kid and nothing seems to cover them up. This is the holy grail of eye concealers for people with dark circles. I got mine in the blooming salmon tint.  It goes on a bit sticky, but doesn’t slide or crease and it actually smells awesome, not like salmon at all! Here’s what it looks like without the lid:

Eyes:

  • Rimmel London Scandaleyes Rockin’ Curves (honestly not my favorite, but it works)
  • E.L.F. Eyelid Primer in Sheer (Good primer for $1)
  • Sephora All Access Glam Gold & Silver Eye & Face Palette. I used the three gold shades on the left. Sorry, I don’t think they sell it anymore; it was just a holiday thing :(
  • Holika Holika Jewel Light Waterproof Eyeliner in 18K Gold. I bought this one from eBay and I am very satisfied with the seller. Note* When buying any Korean products on eBay, be sure that they come directly from Korea. If you notice that the seller is located somewhere other than Korea and that they exclude shipping to Korea, then the product is most likely counterfeit. Check out my eBay Guide and eBay Collection on buying Korean beauty products online. I am in love with this line of eyeliners because I don’t do dark eyeliners. These offer a lovely shimmer in multiple colors. I use it along my upper eyelid and along my waterline, concentrating on the inner corners of my eye. This gives you that youthful, dewey look. Dark eyeliners don’t tend to do this for me.  I look more like a raccoon than anything…
  • L’oreal Wear Infinite Brighten Eyes in #405 Taffeta. This is a gorgeous illuminator and I put it just under my eyebrow to add a touch of shimmer and to catch light in that area.
  • E.L.F. Eyelash Curler
  • Sephora Precision Eyeshadow Brush

Cheeks:

  • Dior Diorblush in #839 Vintage Pink/Rose Vintage. This is a subtle, gorgeous blush and is great for fair toned skin.
  • E.L.F. Shimmering Facial Whip. This is a great, very inexpensive Benefit highlighter dupe. I just put it on my upper cheekbones and on the bridge of my nose to make it appear straighter. Yes, it’s a little bent, but that gives me character I suppose.
  • Laura Geller Baked Highlighter in French Vanilla. I use this in the hollow of my cheeks, along my jawline, and above my brows.
  • Tarte Airbuki Brush. This is a very soft, very durable, and highly versatile makeup brush. I use it to blend all three of the products mentioned above. It’s great for making the shimmer whip blend into my makeup to give me a flawless, dewey look.

Lips:

  • Rimmel London Moisture Renew Universal Transparent Lipliner. This is an ok lipliner that is supposed to be good for any shade of lipstick, but I just give it an “eh” rating. I wouldn’t buy it again.
  • Rimmel London Moisture Renew Lipstick in #505 Red Alert. This is a stunning, bright red and it is very moist, not at all chalky. It does get everywhere, so I recommend using a clear gloss to sort of seal it in.

These are some of my current beauty favorites. I was in no way endorsed by anyone to write this post. I just rather enjoy sharing what I love :)

I hope this was a fun read! Sorry to the men who have no idea about makeup, or women for that matter.

Thanks for reading and have a Happy New Year!

Megan
